Just about a week after recalling Pro-pet Adult Daily Vitamin Supplement for dogs, United Pet Group has now announced that many dog and cat food vitamin supplements with Petco and Fosters and Smith labels are being recalled. Certain lots of some of these products have tested positive for Salmonella.
This recall poses two separate issues. People who handle salmonella infected products may be at risk of becoming infected with Salmonella. Symptoms of Salmonella in humans include nausea, vomiting, diarrhea or bloody diarrhea, abdominal cramping and fever. Elderly people and anyone with a compromised immune system are at a greater risk. If you have any of these symptoms and have handled any of these recalled products, please talk to a health care professional.
Pets with Salmonella may be lethargic and tired, have diarrhea or bloody diarrhea, fever and vomiting. Pet owners can also carefully check to see if their pet may be experiencing any abdominal pain. If your pet has consumed any of these recalled products and has any symptoms or you are concerned, please talk to your veterinarian. Pets with Salmonella sometimes do not exhibit obvious symptoms, but they can still be carriers and can infect other pets within the same household.
